A group of third year IT students from Middlesex University Dubai overcame tough competition from across the United Arab Emirates to win the annual Software Development Trade Show.

The competition, now in its sixth year, features a range of different IT projects showcased by final year students from different universities across the region.

Participating in the event for the very first time, Middlesex Dubai IT students presented an innovative computerised Table Top interface, which was used to demonstrate a ‘touch and feel’ game for children developed by the students.  The team,  made up of David Godsway, Ibrahim Adefila, Uwemedimo Ndem and Safwan Syed were mentored by their lecturers Engie Bashir and Jaspreet Singh in preparation for the event.

Engie Bashir commented: “This is an outstanding achievement and win for our students, and demonstrates the increasing interest in new technologies which go beyond the traditional computer interface. At Middlesex we emphasise novel interactive technologies in our IT degrees, which give students an edge in emerging IT industries.”

The table top idea originated from academic at the UK campus of Middlesex University and was then replicated and enhanced in Dubai. The winning students were awarded eight week internships as software developers.
