    Top Middlesex sporting talent celebrates

    Some of Middlesex University's top sportspeople have been honoured at an awards ceremony held to mark their achievements.

    Some of Middlesex University's top sportspeople have been honoured at an awards ceremony held to mark their achievements.

    Prizes included sportsman and sportswoman of the year, captain of the year and team of the year, all presented by Saracens and England Saxons flanker Andy Saull.

    Fencing star James Davis from East Barnet scooped sportsman of the year, and top 100m runner Ashleigh Nelson from Stoke won sportswoman of the year.

    Captain of the year was Athletics captain and talented 110m hurdler Edirin Okoro from Wolverhampton, and the University's cheerleaders were crowned sports team of the year.

    Mel Parker, Middlesex University's Head of Sport & Recreation said: "It's been an amazing year of sport at Middlesex and the excitement levels are building with a number of our students hopeful of selection for the Olympic Games.

    "The quality of this year's winners shows that Middlesex is a great destination for people who want to make sure they can excel in sport as well as their academic studies."

    Middlesex University's sports awards ceremony was held at the Crown Moran hotel in Cricklewood.
