    Middlesex appoints Turner Prize nominee

    02/01/2013
One of the UK’s leading fine artists and photographers Richard Billingham has been appointed by Middlesex University.

One of the UK’s leading fine artists and photographers, Richard Billingham – Turner Prize nominee and the first recipient of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize – has been appointed by Middlesex University as a Professor in the Creative Industries, with a particular brief to mentor photography students.

Richard’s work is currently profiled in the National Gallery in the venue’s first major photography exhibition.  The exhibition titled ‘Seduced by art: photography past and present’ features mid-19th century and contemporary photographs alongside historical paintings.

Other recent work includes his short film titled ‘Siberian Tiger’ which was broadcast last month on Channel 4. Richard became well known for his photobook ‘Ray's A Laugh’ which documents the life of his family at home taken over a period of years beginning in 1990.

Professor Richard Billingham said: "Middlesex photography students are provided with a lot of one to one contact time with tutors, which is important for photographers early in their careers. This enables us to work with students to develop their ideas and provide personalised creative guidance in a way that can't be done in large groups."
