Helping researchers, business, policy and civil society work together for a sustainable future
As environmental problems become increasingly complex, there is a need to being together people involved in understanding the interactions between food, energy, water and the environment. An invited paper from the ESRC Nexus Network Program explored the challenges and opportunities for researchers to collaborate across disciplines and with non academics in business, policy and civil society. The review has identified the theoretical, methodological and practical challenges of such complex teams and explored the issues facing early career researchers and those evaluating such boundary crossing research. Good practice is identified for those managing teams of researchers related to forming teams, managing the tensions, negotiating the approaches and agreeing outputs required. The paper was launched as one of the first outputs of this ESRC program.
