SME Growth, Finance and Development

Looking out for SMEs

In the UK, SMEs account for 99.9 per cent of all private sector businesses, employing 14.4 million people with a combined annual turnover of £1,600 billion (Federation of Small Businesses, 2013). It's little wonder, therefore, they're often described as the life-blood of the economy.

Research that matters

Since the early 1990s, academics and students at CEEDR have earned national recognition for their research into the various aspects of SME development and enterprise policy. In particular, we have carried out important studies into relevant areas such as high growth SMEs, innovation, enterprise development in rural areas, and the low carbon economy.

Most recently, our projects have investigated the challenges that surround SME access to finance, including policies aimed at addressing finance gaps. Follow this link to find out more about the impact of our important work in this area.
