Centre for Investigative & Diagnostic Oncology

Pioneering cancer diagnosis and therapy

Middlesex University has been committed to the area of bio-scientific research, housed in University's purpose built Hatchcroft building where we have been pioneering research into the diagnosis and therapy for Cancer.

In September 2004, it invited Professor Ray Iles to lead a new bioscience research and teaching initiative to extend the scope of existing research. Professor Iles heads a new £3m Biomedical Science Research Facility, which incorporates molecular pathology, bio-modelling/bioinformatics and environmental health. The University’s commitment continues and it has created the new Cancer Research Centre which is staffed by scientists with international reputations and the potential to make both academic and commercial quantum advances. The Centre is housed in the impressive new Hatchcroft building on the University’s main campus at Hendon, North West London.

The Honorary Director of the new Centre is the eminent Immunologist, Professor Ivan Roitt, Fellow of The Royal Society. The Centre’s work will focus on the diagnosis and potential therapy of a range of common cancers such as breast, prostate, brain and colon, which are among the most common forms of cancer in the U.K. If these conditions could be diagnosed much earlier as part of routine screening, the possibilities for successful treatment are immense. Our main research themes described on the following pages below demonstrate the highly creative outlook of the staff in the centre.

The Centre has also been supported by generous grants from Jon Smith and Princess Sara bint Talal through the Lee Smith Foundation.
