Electronic Arts

Lansdown Centre for Electronic Arts

The centre, part of Middlesex’s Art and Design Research Institute (ADRI), was founded on the basis of pioneering computer animation in 1985, and is committed to the creative and critical use of digital and electronic technologies. The Centre is at the leading edge of developments in which media have become social, interactive, ubiquitous, pervasive, physical and multimodal and has an international reputation.

Interactivity, sound and moving image are key themes. Current projects are in locative media, technology and performance, and spatial audio, among several other areas. Pioneering research feeds into postgraduate programmes (Interactive Media started 1992, Sonic Arts 2003, Moving Image 2007) rethinking knowledge in the light of digital technologies. Theory and practice are tightly linked. Key strengths are interdisciplinary investigation and creative, playful work complemented by rigorous evaluation.

International publications, exhibitions and performances are regularly achieved by Lansdown Centre staff and research students. Work has been shown in the major European cities and over twenty-five countries across most continents.
