Performing Arts (Middlesex) enjoys a strong reputation for performance practice, performance education and production, together with critical approaches to performance/performance-related issues in teaching and research.

We focus on issues in expert/disciplinary mastery, and performance-historical writing, along with critical reflection on performance traditions and discourses.
Our approach is explicitly multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural, and greatly benefits from its vibrant North London location.

Central to performance research activities is ResCen, the Centre for Research into Creation in the Performing Arts, which maintains high research visibility in national and international terms.

What is highly distinctive of the RESCEN research profile is its sustained concern for and enquiry into expert practitioner perspectives and the 'knowledge status' of expert practice, performance-making processes, documentation of process, issues with regard to expertise, mastery and practitioner signature, and practitioner-centred discourses.
