Research & Knowledge Transfer Office

The Research & Knowledge Transfer Office (RKTO), works closely with reasearchers across the University, in our schools and the Institute for Work Based Learning. The RKTO's  main focus is to meet the University’s research & business engagement ambitions.

The service is provided by three teams:

  • Student Support Team – who will work with staff and research students to provide administrative support from initial enquiry through to award;
  • Grants and Contracts Team – who help academic staff to develop and deliver income generating projects (e.g. Research Council, EU, commercial or charity funded projects);
  • Finance Team – who provide financial support including monitoring and reporting for all research and business engagement activities from high level reporting to project finance.

Research-related Functions

  • Research policy & guidance: to advise on all aspects of research policy and to develop models of best practice
  • Research intelligence: to provide information on funding sources consistent with the University's research strategies and ambition
  • Research development & training: to provide training programmes, seminars and master classes for research staff to enhance research and research management skills
  • Research finance: to work with Financial Services to establish financial systems and financial management support for research and externally funded projects
  • Research students: to provide oversight of academic standards, degree provision and student progression
  • Internal/external relations: to work with key stakeholders and funders to develop and maintain gainful relationships
  • Website: to develop and maintain the university research intranet and internet sites 
  • Promotion & advocacy: to help raise the profile of research at Middlesex University and to ensure that research issues are addressed
  • Research data: to compile, collate and interpret research statistics for management, staff and agencies as appropriate
  • REF: to provide guidance and central support for the University's plans regarding the Research Excellence Framework
