Social Work

Rachel Walsh Middlesex translation graduateWhich elements of the BA Social Work have you enjoyed most?

Throughout the course I have really enjoyed studying Social Policy, Methods and Models and Contexts and Applications; they've given me a good understanding of psychological theories and counselling skills, which prior to the course I only had a limited knowledge of. I have also been very lucky to get an opportunity to work at a Youth Offending Service during my final placement which will help in my ambition to work in Youth Justice.

How have you found the experience of studying at Middlesex?

Coming to Middlesex University has been a life-changing experience for me. I have had the opportunity to meet some inspirational teachers and mentors; they have listened, acknowledged and supported me through the ups and downs of balancing studies and family life, which is extremely important when you're a mature student.

I have also been lucky enough to make some exceptional new friends over the last 3 years; they have kept me motivated and focused, particularly during the final weeks.

Why did you choose Middlesex University?

I was inspired to apply to Middlesex University because I had read some favourable reports regarding the Social Work course. I was particularly impressed by its employment statistics and placement links with surrounding boroughs.

At the start of the course, my aim was to pursue a career in Youth Justice and I have been very lucky to get an opportunity to work at a Youth Offending Service during my final placement. I have no hesitation in recommending Middlesex University as a great place to study social work.
