John Fletcher graduated from Manchester University with a BSc in Liberal Studies in Science. He is a qualified ACA, having trained with KPMG in London. His commercial experience covers a wide range of organisations in diverse sectors. Initially working in financial services for a leasing subsidiary of Schroder Wagg, he moved to manufacturing as finance manager for a subsidiary of Burmah Castrol. On moving to the Virgin Group he was responsible for the enterprise division assessing new business proposals, finance director of 5 companies within the entertainment and leisure sectors and later group chief accountant for Virgin Atlantic together with responsibility for group treasury.
Other roles included business planning manager for British Olivetti offering computer and software solutions, finance director and company secretary of a manufacturing company and consultancy in the IT and Healthcare sectors before joining Middlesex University.
All of the above roles included the provision of management accounting information to accurately forecast and plan the future which links directly to his present responsibilities for delivering the university's technical management accounting modules on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Links with the local community include the delivery of CPD for Brent and Islington middle managers and presenting a workshop on Activity Based Costing in an ESRC initiative to link up with local SMEs.
