Hsing-fen Lee holds a PhD from Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. Hsing-fen's research interests lie in studies of knowledge dynamics in the field of innovation and strategy. She studies knowledge dynamics by looking into sources of knowledge and types of competences at individual level as well as at organizational level. She has made contributions in areas such as careers of scientists and knowledge flows, service innovations and how firms manage their knowledge assets through IP strategies. She has published papers in international journals such as Journal of Technology Transfer, British Journal of Management and Research Policy.
Hsing-fen received her first degree and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, an MSc in Technology Management from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), and a further MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics from the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research (CCSR) at the University of Manchester. Before beginning her lectureship position at Middlesex University Business School, she had working experience as a researcher at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, Manchester Business School, as a specialist in analysis of science and technology policies at the Taiwanese Science Council and as a R&D researcher at Unilever Taiwan.
