My main research focus is on music's cognitive and rehabilitation benefits in people with and without cognitive impairment. I work in collaboration with the Middlesex MCCLab led by Dr Fabia Franco, which is a research laboratory focused on examining the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses associated with music, as well as their reciprocal relationship. Additionally, I maintain ongoing partnerships with Padua University in Italy, Trinity College of Dublin, and Vrije University of Brussel.
Ongoing projects:
- MusiCare (Principal Researcher): an international cooperation project funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust (300K) to investigate the effects of different types of music therapy on cognitive functions and well-being in older adults living independently or in care homes.
- The impact of Binaural Beat Stimulation on enhancing cognitive functions in healthy individuals and older adults with cognitive impairment.
- The Music Cognitive Test is a music-based screening tool designed to assess general cognitive functions. This test has been validated in both the general population and older adults with cognitive decline related to dementia. Our objective is to broaden the validation of this test to diverse neuro-atypical populations.
