Sumi Perera obtained a MA from the Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London in 2004, following a medical & scientific career: MBBS, Sri Lanka 1983, MSc & MPhil London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine 1993 & 1996.
She is an interdisciplinary artist, who combines traditional printmaking techniques (etching, mezzotint, drypoint, screenprinting etc.) with CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) methods to design mixed media assemblage installations.
She is a senior fellow of the Royal Society of Painters-Printmakers, a fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Artists, the 62 Group of International Textile Artists & Prism International.

Sumi Perera exhibits internationally and has won several awards, prizes & residencies.
She has work held in many public collections, including the Tate Britain (8 works), the Victoria & Albert Museum (10 works) and the Yale Centre for British Art (2 works). She exhibits annually at the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy and the Summer Exhibition in 2013. She has participated in many international biennials (New Zealand & Ireland) & triennials (Chicago & Serbia).
She was invited to exhibit, talk and run master-classes at several international art festivals: the Stroud International Textile Festival last year, and Impress 2016 the International Print Festival.
In 2007 Sumi taught an artistbook module at the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing, and curated an exhibition that toured to 12 international venues.
She curated an exhibition titled PhotoGraphics, for the Printmakers Council (PmC) in 2013. She has exhibited and participated in several IMPACT conferences on printmaking, and won numerous awards at many of the Society of Bookbinders International Conference & Competition over the years.
She was awarded the Prix de Print in the USA by K.Alkauskas MoMA New York 2015, and featured in Art in Print.
She was the winner of the Flourish Award 2015, Printmaker of the Year, for excellence in Printmaking-Solo Show & Residency: a 10 week solo show LIMINAL SPACES at the Huddesrfield Art Gallery (off-site centre for the ICA, London).
