Dallas Roulston in Lecturer in Medical Microbiology within the Department of Natural Sciences. He teaches on a number of Biomedical Science modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Dallas graduated with an Associate Degree in Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Techniques) from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia in 2000. He obtained a Master of Science (Clinical Microbiology) from Queen Mary, University of London in 2011 and completed his PhD from the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. His thesis investigated the utilisation of optical methods for the mapping of microgradients in environmental parameters in dental biofilms.
Dallas holds State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist. He is currently the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) Young Ambassador of Science for the United Kingdom. He regularly participates in public outreach and engagement activities. He is a member of a number of microbiology and dental research societies, including; Microbiology Society, Society of Applied Microbiology, British Society for Oral and Dental Research.
Dallas' research interests include clinical microbiology, advanced microscopy techniques, biofilms and their role in infectious disease (particularly dental pathologies and prosthetic joint infections), microbial proteomics and molecular microbiology.

Dallas also teaches on the MSc (Medical Microbiology) course.
Dallas is responsible for the supervison of a number of students during their third year undergraduate research dissertation, as well as a number of MSc research projects.
Dallas has obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, and holds Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy, having previously obtained Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy through the UCL Arena Centre for Research-Based Education.
Dallas has previously worked with UCL ChangeMakers to investigate research-based education and the Connected Curriculum. He later contributed a book chapter entitled 'Engaging students in research with ‘real-world’ outputs'. The book is available open-access below.
