Angela Woodhouse - BA (Hons), MA(dist) Surrey
Angela Woodhouse, Lecturer in Dance, teaches choreography on both the undergraduate programmes. She trained in dance and visual art at the Metropolitan University of Manchester, and has an MA (dist) from University of Surrey. In 1988 she received the Lisa Ullmann scholarship to study with Alwin Nikolais and Murrey Louis in New York. She has since worked with Reinhild Hoffmann (Berlin) and Sara Pearson (USA). Angela’s artistic practice is concerned with audience relations, performance installation, site specific work and interdisciplinary practice.
Her work has toured extensively both nationally and internationally. Recent works include Between (2011-13), in collaboration with artist Caroline Broadhead, an installation performance produced by Trinity Laban and touring nationally including Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Central St Martin’s Platform Theatre/ The Place; Censored (2010) commissioned by Woking Dance Festival in association with Lightbox Gallery and Tate Artist Rooms – Jenny Holzer; Sighted (2009), produced at The Place Theatre and commissioned by Royal Opera House Deloitte Ignite Festival with a recent revival at Saatchi Gallery as part of Collect 15; and endings (2009/10) commissioned by Transitions Dance Company and touring internationally. Angela was selected as one of the commissioned artists for the inaugural Place Prize 2004 with Threshold.. In regard to current projects, Angela was shortlisted for the Jerwood Choreographic Project 2013 for research with artist Nathaniel Rackowe. They have since premiered their new work (Un)touched as part of ‘Artists at Work’ at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf (2016) with further performances in 2017/18. Most recently Angela was commissioned by Nottingham Galleries and Museums to create Close Distance, a new installation in collaboration once again with Caroline Broadhead and with film artist Nic Sandiland for the 16th Century manor Wollaton Hall, Nottinghamshire. The work was part of Dance 4 Nottdance Festival 2017.
Angela is visiting choreographer / director for The London College of Fashion MA Costume for Performance. She has taught at the Tanzhoff Akadamie, Switzerland, Central St Martins School of Art, London, Trinity Laban, London Contemporary Dance School, and Wimbledon College of Art. Her work has been supported by Arts Council England, Middlesex University, English Heritage, Canary Wharf PLC, and other foundations.

Angela has taught at the Tanzhoff Akadamie, Switzerland, Trinity Laban, Wimbledon School of Art, London, Central St Martin's School of Art, London, and London Contemporary Dance School at MA and Undergraduate level.
Angela currently teaches on undergraduate and MA provision.
