The School of Law prides itself on the quality of its teaching staff, and this dedication to excellence was underscored at the inaugural Middlesex Students' Union Teaching Awards, which saw Sociology lecturer Dr Erin Sanders-McDonagh named Most Empowering Teacher.
During a ceremony held inside the spectacular Rickett Quadrangle at the Hendon campus in March, Dr Sanders-McDonagh was presented with her award by Middlesex University's new Chancellor, Dame Janet Ritterman.
Erin, whose research focuses on gender and sexuality, received the following glowing testimony from one of her pupils: "Erin motivates and empowers her students to give answers, whether they are wrong or right, and always responds in ways that are comforting and reassuring.
"She is a highly motivating and inspiring teacher, incredibly helpful and supportive and always ready to give her students the best to help them succeed. She radiates passion for her subject, her door is always open and I look forward to her classes every week."
More than 1,000 nominations for teachers based across all six of the University's schools were received before Students' Union student interns chose the winners in each of the five categories from a shortlist of names.
With its continuing dedication to excellence, the Law School hopes to be celebrating again when the Teaching Awards return in 2015.
