The construction sector is a major part of the UK economy and any centrally procured project will require Business Information Modelling (BIM) compliance. Yet there is a shortage of well qualified graduates who are capable of the efficient coordination of processes, workflows, people, assets and technology that BIM requires. This Masters degree was designed to meet that demand.

Why choose Building Information Modelling Management and Integrated Digital Delivery MSc/PGDip/PGCert at Middlesex?

We are one of the first institutions in the world to offer a work-based building information modelling course. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the process of creating and managing construction information through a project's life cycle with higher efficiencies in workflows and processes using Technology as a catalyst. BIM focuses specifically on technical, operational and strategic Integrated Digital delivery within projects and organisations.

Our course is for experienced professionals who manage BIM projects including architects, architectural technologists, construction and civil engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services (MEP) engineers, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) engineers, technicians, contractors, subcontractors, fabricators and manufacturers, Facilities and operations managers (FM & OM) and quantity surveyors.

  • Pavithran Kannoth

Design and BIM Director, Brookfield Multiplex Middlesex East

I won the award for Excellence in BIM Implementation on behalf of my company. Since I personally in charge of BIM implementation and managing all aspects of BIM it gives me a lot of energy going forward. Although I have started the BIM implementation process in 2008, I must say this course helped me a lot for structuring the workflow and finally recognizing through an award!

Currently BIM has not fully captured the Middle Eastern market. Although technology has advanced, skills gap and lack of direction of standards remain an issue in the market. As I am an international student from Middle East where BIM awareness is currently low and confusing multiple standards and practices are followed, I had to struggle initially till I joined this course. But within the first quarter of the course I have managed get a good insight on structured BIM management and its professional application. Now I have started to put into practice what I learnt from this course.

  • Jason North

    BAM Construct UK

I feel that I landed my new role as BIM Manager as a result of my studies on the MSc course. The interviewers commented that they were surprised that I was able to provide answers to all of their questions. They had seen many candidates without a broad knowledge. Thanks for your support and for producing such a great course. I think it is responding exactly to the requirements of the current market.

  • Michael Boyd

    BIM Manager, WSP Group

The mix of collaborative learning and lectures from highly respected industry and university professionals provides an environment to critically analyse and challenge current working practices inherent within the construction industry. The course format is flexible and contains room for sharing knowledge between students in addition to the very thorough materials and lectures. Whilst technology is discussed in depth, this course is definitely not a software focused BIM course and covers all aspects of a construction project's life-cycle.

This course has already helped me implement new and improved workflows within my employer and has also helped me educate more junior members of staff in matters relating to Building Information Modelling and related subjects.

The course leadership come from varied backgrounds with extensive knowledge of the subject matter. I would highly recommend the MSc course at Middlesex University to aspiring construction professionals with an interest in BIM and those looking to be part of the movement to improve the construction industry.

  • Emma Hayes

The Middlesex University Master's Degree in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Management has exceeded my expectations as it focuses on management skills and processes for BIM implementation. The course material is extremely well delivered by both the college lecturers and by the panel of industry expert guest lecturers who are at the forefront of BIM adoption internationally.

The distance learning experience is excellent with very well presented weekly subject webinars which encourage interaction between the student cohort and the lecturers. I believe my qualification in BIM Management from Middlesex University will give me the skills to be a thought leader and to further my career in BIM.

  • Daryn Fitz

The course is excellent as part of continued professional development, with one of the key highlights being the high calibre of students it attracts. The students provide a wide range of discipline and management knowledge, gained from practical experience whilst working within some of the industries leading companies. This mix of individual experience, combined with academic study provides an environment that is both challenging and rewarding in equal measure.

  • Peter K Foster Jnr

Head of BIM Implementation, Premier Interlink (WACO UK Ltd)

An excellent course covering all aspects of BIM. Guest presenters and the tutors are highly knowledgeable and provide a high standard of information, having the facility to question the presenters and receive instant answers is highly beneficial. The course itself is detailed and contains a vast amount of information. It is well structured and contains excellent weekly journals where the cohort raise questions and discuss relevant issues. Highly recommended for BIM novices and seasoned professionals alike.

  • Mihaela Niculita

Manager Space Planning & CAD Solutions, ISS Facility Services Ltd t/a Integrated Solutions

I have joined the Building Information Modelling Management MSc Postgraduate course at Middlesex University in October 2013 with enthusiasm and following my intuition that BIM will descend on facilities management sooner than anticipated. I did not know what to expect or to what extent my assumption would be proven. Soon I realised that the scope of the course was phenomenal, covering a multitude of aspects of the built environment: from new build to life cycle/ operations, from management to legal aspects, from current methodologies to future strategies of BIM implementation - all organised to ensure support for the students and their progress.

The material and case studies are the best practice in the industry and I am privileged to be exposed to weekly guest lectures of high calibre knowledge. Our tutors Noha and Steve are supportive and present - they guide us along the way and their knowledge provides the right stimulus for great ideas exchange. Noha was patient when I was overwhelmed, but knew how to motivate me and keep me on track.

I am today following the course with more commitment than ever. I have now a clearer vision of what BIM Management is, how it can help us improving our business and more importantly, how it can add value to our facilities clients. I am already applying the knowledge and look forward to the rest of the course which I recommend to all BIM enthusiasts.

  • Sean McCormick

    CAD Manager, Heatherwick Studio

As someone who is always striving to learn new technologies and developments within the built environment, I was delighted when I was offered the opportunity to study a Master's Degree in BIM Management at Middlesex University. I had been looking for such an opportunity for a number of years, but until then there had been no such course in the UK.

The Middlesex University Masters in BIM Management course is the first of its kind and offers a unique challenge for anyone who wants to be part of the next phase in the evolution of the built environment. The course material is varied, relevant and easily accessible via the university website. Lectures are provided twice weekly through webinars on the university website portal.

Accessibility to the course is key for me as I have a very busy work life and would not be able to take time off to study a degree which is campus based. The tutors are also very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the course and look forward to future challenges it may provide for me.

  • Martin Hawley

    Lead BIM Coordinator, Laing O'Rourke

Middlesex University's MSc BIMM programme has so far been of great benefit, providing a broad and in depth coverage of the subject, enhanced by the tutors extensive qualifications and experience, along with the high calibre of other students and their varied roles within the industry, adding to the courses unique and rich content. In addition to this, the provision of weekly interactive online lectures featuring industry experts offers an invaluable learning opportunity, whilst making it easier to attend lectures with minimal disruption to working schedules.

  • Jack Dearlove

    BIM Manager, Clancy Consulting Ltd

I have found the MSc BIM Management course at Middlesex University extremely engaging. It covers all aspects of BIM and pushes the boundaries of my knowledge. The level of expertise brought to the course from expert guest lecturers and presenters is where the course excels and far surpasses any academic reading alternative. It brings real depth to the course offering leading thoughts and procedures on BIM from consultants, specialists and contractors at the forefront of the BIM revolution in the industry.

Learning from the best in the industry is supported by strong academic rigour that the university instils through positive and enthusiastic helpful lecturers. The course is an intense long distance learning environment expected at Masters level, however the benefit of twice weekly online lectures from industry experts takes this course a cut above the rest. This course has and will really add value to you and your career.

  • Mark Greatrix

    Senior Design Technician, Waldeck Consulting

I've learned heaps from Noha and Steve and industry guest lecturers so far and continue to do so week in week, and can't criticise at all in terms of the quality informative content they deliver. The experience I've gained has already been applied to my day to day workings with great affect and benefited many if our processes greatly.
I look forward to enjoy the 2 weekly webinars we have and seeing everyone this way as we are of course distance learners and without this it would be impossible.

The webinars have all been very informative, with particular highlights for me being the presentations from Skanska and Balfour Beaty giving an insight into how they are tackling their BIM projects, these presentations have been a great aid and influence to how we are shaping our approach to BIM projects also.

The E Journals have been one of the key sources of my knowledge improvement and gleaning insights from the rest of my peers within my group has been invaluable. We have had regular chances to provide course feedback and can see that by giving us the opportunity to voice our concerns etc it is because there is a clear objective to continue to shape and improve the course for us all, which is great. Keep up the good work and I look forward to being part of the first Cohort on this course at it moves forward. On a whole I would definitely recommend this course to others.
