You can find more information about this course in the programme specification. Optional modules are usually available at levels 5 and 6, although optional modules are not offered on every course. Where optional modules are available, you will be asked to make your choice during the previous academic year. If we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, or there are staffing changes which affect the teaching, it may not be offered. If an optional module will not run, we will advise you after the module selection period when numbers are confirmed, or at the earliest time that the programme team make the decision not to run the module, and help you choose an alternative module.
Dr. Gareth Morgan
Project Manager for the National Framework for Older People, NHS Wales.
I found the programme intellectually and professionally challenging and that has certainly feed through and improved my effectiveness. There is also no doubt that my enhanced professional title has also increased my credibility within the health service. The work based research helped me to develop as a critical thinker and reflective learner. I have been able to cascade this approach to all sorts of areas throughout the team. It has helped to changed mind sets.
My academic supervisors, Professor Hemda Garelick and Dr Gordon Weller, were absolutely fantastic. They struck the right balance between rigorous academic feedback and support. We developed a close working relationship despite the distance. Their support was instrumental in my success.
Assistant Director of Nursing and part-time PhD student
As a senior nurse with over eighteen years of experience in a range of acute healthcare NHS settings, I'm especially passionate about providing high quality patient care and ensuring that staff demonstrate culturally competent compassion in all areas of healthcare provision.
In 2018, I was proud to be nominated as a Finalist in the NHS Windrush 70 Awards which celebrate the contributions and diversity of BME people to the National Health Service.
My PhD explores the hospital experiences of older stroke patients of Black Caribbean backgrounds in London. I’m supervised and well-supported by Professor Irena Papadopoulos, and have had a really positive experience of being a research student at Middlesex University.
The supervisors are approachable and supportive, and I can access information online - facilities which are essential for many students, especially for those of us who are working while pursuing further educational opportunities.
I would recommend Middlesex University to other students who have an enquiring mind and wish to pursue doctoral research.
We’ll carefully manage any future changes to courses, or the support and other services available to you, if these are necessary because of things like changes to government health and safety advice, or any changes to the law.
Any decisions will be taken in line with both external advice and the University’s Regulations which include information on this.
Our priority will always be to maintain academic standards and quality so that your learning outcomes are not affected by any adjustments that we may have to make.
At all times we’ll aim to keep you well informed of how we may need to respond to changing circumstances, and about support that we’ll provide to you.
