This is a unique programme structure as your major individual master’s project is followed by a collaborative project to evaluate and share your work in chosen public settings, enhancing your employability skills.

Over the course of this master's programme, you'll study a broad spectrum of fashion communication techniques operating in varied cultures and contexts. You'll be equipped to understand the complexity of the global fashion communication industry by undertaking research into how and why fashion communication has adapted and transformed to both disrupt and re-energise the industry. You'll also learn to create your own innovative fashion communication strategies and campaigns through live investigations with industry partners.
You'll practice your communication skills including personal presentation techniques, collaboration and team-working, and mastery of relevant technologies to produce communication campaigns and strategies. These will contribute to the success of your master’s project which will develop and showcase your individual identity as a successful and innovative fashion communicator.
This module explores the emerging disruptive narratives that are generated from non-traditional fashion territories, both geographically and from digital spaces. You'll learn to contextualize these against traditional fashion narratives found in image-making, video, broadcast, print, social media and beyond.
In this module, you'll study the significance of cultural research to the fashion and lifestyle industries. You'll explore appropriate research methodologies for application in fashion industry contexts, drawing on ethnographic and sociological techniques, and learn how to analyse primary research materials.
Building on the Communication and Global Perspectives module, this module asks you to respond to a live brief set by an industry partner, situating the Research and Development process in a real life setting. The outcome could be a brand pack, communications road map, a set of visual assets, a short film or another medium that adequately reflects the brief.
In this module, you'll create new fashion and brand narratives in response to extensive research of contemporary fashion culture and audience, using text, image, video, broadcast, print, social media, events, exhibitions. This project could be individual or a collaboration with others.
Operating as an Agency, this group project peer-evaluates your Master’s Projects and disseminates these works into a public setting, addressing the delivery methods of visuals, audio, digital, print and events. For example, this could take the form of an exhibition, print media, film and delivery of a communication strategy to both articulate the Master’s Projects of each individual and the cohort as a group. The delivery will be intensive and include Masterclass session with industry professionals.

If we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, or there are staffing changes which affect the teaching, it may not be offered. If an optional module will not run, we will advise you after the module selection period when numbers are confirmed, or at the earliest time that the programme team make the decision not to run the module, and help you choose an alternative module.
Group workshops and individual tutorials make up the majority of your contact, alongside independent study.
You'll be negotiating each of your project outcomes with your tutor team and be assessed on your coursework. Each module will include formative and summative assessment points. There are no exams.
You'll experience project briefs set by industry professionals, get the opportunity to put your ideas in front of respected practitioners and work collaboratively with your cohort to peer-evaluate your work and pool your talents to launch your Master’s project to real world audiences.

Matt studied Fashion Design at Central St. Martins and has worked as a stylist and Fashion Editor for Arena, Dazed & Confused, Exit, Nylon, POP and The Face magazines. In addition he has collaborated with numerous designers on runway presentations internationally. He also publishes Animæ, a print publication of photography, illustration, interviews and prose that explores themes of identity, sexuality and gender.
