Why study the Global Online MBA at Middlesex?

With an emphasis on practice, our MBA focuses on key management disciplines including financial and economic analysis, strategy and innovation, managing and developing people, global marketing management, operations and supply chain management, and cross-cultural management and ethics.

In your second year, you have the option to study a specialist elective online in place of one of the core modules as well as join other MBA students on a consulting project (for an additional fee) working in the field to address an organisational or industry-based challenge.

Your MBA culminates in a final project where you have the option to develop your consulting skills, write a business plan or engage in a more traditional academic report.

What will you study on the Global Online MBA?

You will study the six core modules or five core modules plus an online elective in addition to your final Business Transformation Project. In addition, you will have the option of joining a field-based Consulting Project towards the end of your second year.

What will you gain?

As well as competence and an a comprehensive overview of the subject, you will also gain a thorough understanding of the disciplines central to management. You will also have the skills to prepare you for taking your career to the next level.

Modules

  • Year 1 - Term 1

    • Strategy and Innovation (20 credits) - Compulsory

      This module aims to provide the key developments in and thinking derived from, the study of strategy. This is increasingly informed by the study of innovation due to the involvement in enabling competitive advantage.

  • Year 1 - Term 2

    • Managing and Developing People (20 credits) - Compulsory

      This module aims to raise awareness of the key areas relevant to effective people management and development. You will explore how these relate to the achievement of business and organisational goals and strategies.

  • Year 1 - Term 3

    • Financial and Economic Analysis (20 credits) - Compulsory

      This module will give you the knowledge, skills and theoretical understanding in a number of strategic aspects of financial management and economics. You will understand how they affect commercial organisations and also examine the interrelationships between key factors in the economic environment. You will evaluate the impact of shifts and changes in these factors on organisational decision-making and performance.

  • Year 2 - Term 1

    • Global Marketing Management (20 credits) - Compulsory

      Marketing management involves satisfying customer needs and desires. In a globally competitive marketplace, the challenge is to select which markets to compete in, to make an integrated set of decisions about product and service design, pricing as well as distribution channels including considerations of advertising, branding, and promotions.

  • Year 2 - Term 2: Choose one of the following modules

    • Cross-Cultural Management and Ethics (20 credits) - Optional

      In order to navigate our complex, globalised environment, we need an understanding of the core values and norms of any organisation, the impact of policies and practices on all stakeholders and how to operate in a multi-cultural environment. This module is designed to provide you with the critical tools and mindset to analyse and identify responses to such challenges.

    • Digital Marketing (20 credits) - Optional

      This module aims to develop your systematic knowledge and skills for understanding the complexity of the new digital landscape. This will focus on the use of e-marketing models, social media and e-tailing to produce a coherent digital marketing strategy.

    • Business Analytics and Performance Management (20 credits) - Optional

      This module will allow you to understand and apply use of data and models to aid strategic and operational decisions.

  • Year 2 - Term 3

    • Operations and Supply Chain Management (20 credits) - Compulsory

      This module aims provide you with the key transformation processes and related concepts/techniques both from an individual enterprise as well as a supply chain perspective. You will also cover both planning and control perspectives.

    • Consultancy Project (0 credits) - Optional (additional fee)

      This module will integrate learning from previous modules as you work in groups to complete a project based on a real organisational or sectoral theme. The project will culminate in a final consulting-type presentation outlining recommendations.

  • Year 3

    • Business Transformation Project (60 credits) - Compulsory

      This module allows you to further develop and integrate the skills and knowledge acquired during the course by working on a specific organisational issue or problem. You will be able to demonstrate proficiency in relation to scoping the issue(s)/problems, consideration of appropriate literature, collection and analysis of data, assessing the financial implications, including any cost/benefit analysis for justifying specific recommendations and consideration of implementation issues.

Optional modules

Optional modules are not offered on every course. If we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, or there are staffing changes which affect the teaching, it may not be offered. If an optional module will not run, we will advise you after the module selection period when numbers are confirmed, or at the earliest time that the programme team make the decision not to run the module, and help you choose an alternative module.

How is the Global Online MBA taught?

The course's online delivery means you can study without having to travel or compromise your employment status. You'll be able to engage with tutors and fellow students, receive online materials and e-learning tools and achieve group interaction during lectures and seminars.

Assessment

Assessment is coursework-based as we seek to test not only theory and its application to practice but also the depth of your understanding. You are required to undertake a final project on a topic of your choosing which can take a number of formats from working with a host organisation to developing a business plan. Throughout each term, online discussions and activities provide numerous opportunities to receive formative feedback to help you progress your learning.
