The Education Department has a long-established reputation for the provision of high quality teaching and learning in a wide range of education programmes including teacher training. The University has been involved in teacher training since the 1950s, when Trent Park opened as a College and provided 'emergency' training for teachers following the post-war shortage.
The Department relocated from Trent Park to become part of the Hendon Campus in August 2012 and is now established in the Fenella building, a dedicated centre for the Education Department with outstanding resources for our staff and students.
We are committed to developing excellence in all areas of teaching, learning and professional practice in a wide range of contexts. We have high expectations of all our students and work tirelessly to ensure that each individual reaches their full potential and becomes a confident and highly employable graduate. As a result, our employability levels are among the highest in London.
The Education Department works in partnership with over 500 schools, colleges and settings in most London boroughs, Hertfordshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. Many of these partnerships are related to our Initial Teacher Training provision, including those that have chosen to work with us in training teachers on the School Direct scheme. We also work in partnership with schools for CPD programmes including short courses, the MA Education and MA Inclusive programmes. The Middlesex University Partnership Steering Group is an advisory group where representatives from partnership schools work with us in developing the provision and sharing good practice.
The Education Department also has 13 collaborative partners, where a wide range of our programmes are validated to run in external organisations.
