Students currently registered/enrolled on a PhD programme at other institutions can apply to study at Middlesex University as a visiting research student.
You can apply to visit Middlesex University for between 1 month and 12 months. During this period, you will be undertaking research which is complementary to your own PhD project at your home university.
Visiting students are advised to check that the relevant school/department has academic expertise in the field of your research. Information on individual schools and staff members is available on our website. Visiting Research Students will not receive a certificate and are not entitled for any qualification from Middlesex University.

Please note that for the majority of our research disciplines, the University has fixed intake terms (October/January). However for Visiting Scholar applicants, they may start at any time of the year.
We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible so that your proposal can be reviewed in good time. We recommend that you submit your application no later than two months ahead of your intended start date.
From the day you receive your applicant number it can take up to 3 weeks to receive an initial admissions decision. However, during busier periods, this process may take longer. If there is any supporting documents missing or pending, your application will be considered incomplete and this may delay your admissions process. As part of your application, you will need to provide a research proposal. In this, you will identify the area of research that interests you. You will also need to prove that you can develop a way of studying and make an original contribution, bearing in mind that a research degree can take up to seven years to complete.
