We’re planning to teach through a flexible combination of online and face to face learning as we start the new academic year. If you’re thinking about starting in autumn 2020, there’s more detail on how we’ll deliver your course below.

Why study professional aviation pilot practice with us

Through a partnership with Tayside Aviation Ltd, our aviation course lets you gain an academic qualification while you develop the technical and practical flying training to begin the exciting first stages of your career as a professional.

With a focus on work-based learning, our aviation degree is the first in the UK to give you both a BSc Honours qualification and 'ab initio' pilot training. 'Ab initio' training refers to an airline sponsoring and mentoring a student from the start and throughout, hiring them once the student is type-rated and certified.

Covering all of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulated training, you’ll be assessed and recognised for your academic achievements as you get to grips with the training and practice that meets the demands of the industry – and future employers.

*Please note this course is subject to review.

Enhance your practical skills with work-based learning

Our work-based learning approach lets you study the academic fundamentals of the industry alongside the necessary hands-on working and training practices.

You’ll get the support and guidance you need to gain your frozen air transport pilots licence (ATPL (F)) as part of your course.

Designed to meet the requirements of partner airlines, you’ll gain an aviation qualification as a Flight Instructor as part of your course.

This course is endorsed by the CAA.

Get the support you need to succeed

Our personalised approach gives you the support you need to succeed as a student. While you are an undergraduate or foundation year student, you’ll have a Personal Tutor directly related to your course. If you need support with academic writing, numeracy and library skills, we’ll be sure to provide it. Our Student Learning and Graduate Academic Assistants have studied your subject and can support you based on their own experience.

Depending on your personal interests and career ambitions, you’ll have the unique opportunity to follow one of two employment routes during your final year of study – First Officer or Flight Training Instructor.

*Please note this course is subject to review.
