DNA sequencing technologies are changing the way we see the world, how we carry out (bio)medical research and how we perform molecular diagnostics. The faculty has recently invested in genetics and genomics technologies. It has acquired two Next Generation Sequencing machines, new equipment for sample Quality Control, invested in bioinformatics software and installed a multi-core (Linux) server. Using examples from my teaching and research I will highlight some of the exciting new possibilities that have opened up for the department.
