START TIME 09:00am
LOCATION NCVO, Society Building, 8 All Saints Street, London N1 9RL

This one day course will take place on Wednesday 26th November in Birmingham and Tuesday 9th December in London. The course will introduce delegates with limited prior knowledge of damage assessment to the latest edition (2014) of the Multi Coloured Handbook for Economic Appraisal.

The Flood Hazard Research Centre has successfully run this course many times and it has proved useful for delegates of Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and engineering consultancies.

Delivered by authors of the handbook, this hands-on course will:

  • Explain the basic economic principles applicable to flood damage assessment.
  • Give you an understanding of the different damage types, available data for each and assessment techniques.
  • Use a number of simple but illustrative case studies with hands on breakout sessions to take you through the steps of flood benefit appraisal.
  • Explain the role of the National Receptor Dataset and understand data deficiencies and the role of data quality
  • Encourage discussion on strengths and weakness, what's important and what lessons can be learned to improve damage assessment.
  • The course will provide a line of sight between the appraisal, options development and Partnership Funding.

The course fee is £340 per delegate. Fee includes a presentation book, lunch and refreshments. The course will be kept to a small group to facilitate participation so please book early by sending an email to Simon McCarthy - stating your preferred date and then we will send you further details.
