The latest exhibition by students and staff of the BA (Hons) Illustration course at Middlesex University, 'Louts, Love and London' takes inspiration from the gritty realist literature published by London Books in the 1930s. Authors such as James Curtis and Simon Blumenfeld told of the triumphs and
struggles of London's working class between the wars.
Middlesex staff and students worked in and around London, drawing at locations described in the books. The results form a collection of atmospheric, exciting images that complement and illuminate the stories that inspired them. All illustrations on display at the exhibition are available for sale.
'Louts, Love and London' follows previous successful exhibitions staged by our Illustration staff and students at Covent Garden's Poetry Cafe. Earlier shows Haunts of the Poets, Happy Birthday Edward Lear (which toured nationwide) and War Stories were held in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
