Honorary Professor of Piano at Middlesex University Martino Tirimo will give a lecture and perform alongside long-term duo partner and cellist Daniel Veis.

Martino Tirimo and Daniel Veis will perform Debussy ('Feu d'artifice') and more in this Thursday evening Concerts and Colloquia event.

Martino Tirimo

Martino Tirimo was born into a musical family in Cyprus and began piano and violin lessons with his father, a conductor and violinist. He gave his first concert at the age of six and when only 12 he conducted seven performances of Verdi's La Traviata, including soloists from La Scala, Milan. He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including all the major British orchestras and those in Berlin, Cleveland, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Prague, Vienna and other centres, with conductors including Barbirolli, Boult, Pritchard, Kurt Sanderling, Masur and Rattle.

Daniel Veis

Daniel Veis has been widely recognized as the finest Czech cellist since winning the Silver Medal at the prestigious 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow when he was 24 years old and First Prize at the Prague Spring International Competition - a competition previously won a by Rostropovich. He was born in Prague and studied there at the Academy of Performing Arts as well as at the Moscow Conservatoire for five years, with Natalia Shakhovskaya. Since 1979 he has performed regularly as soloist with many of the major orchestras and at numerous festivals including concerts at Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, Suntory Hall in Tokyo with conductors such as Sir Charles Mackerras, Serge Baudo, Gaetano Delogu, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Vaclav Neumann, Jiri Bělohlávek, Libor Pešek and many others.
