The government’s recent review of the 2010 drug strategy concluded that despite an annual spend of at least £1.6 billion, “there is a lack of high quality evidence to assess the impact of drug enforcement activities” (Home Office, 2017: 76).
This seminar presents evidence from an independent evaluation on the impact of a large-scale drug law enforcement operation by one English police force using data relating to: over one million emergency (‘999’) and non-emergency (‘101’) calls for service; interviews with different stakeholders; and observations (of tasking and co-ordination meetings, pre and post-operation de-briefings, and warrants being executed).
