We are proud to host three of the national competition events: Automation, Mechatronics and Laboratory Technician. By taking part, you will have the chance to showcase your skills on a national level, develop your confidence around your subject area and raise your technical skills.
Did you know that Middlesex’s world-class facilities and training material is certified by our industry partners, Festo and Siemens? When you study with us, not only do you get opportunities to develop advanced subject and professional skills at a world class industry level, but you will have access to Siemens simulation software including NX Mechatronics Concept Design, Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, PLCSIM Advanced and TIA Portal. You’ll learn how to apply what you’ve learnt to a digital context, getting an understanding of MindSphere and Digital Twins.
It is through this partnership we provide you with industrial experience through industry-standard training and technology during your degree. You would not typically gain this kind of hands-on experience until entering the working world, giving you a head-start from the moment you graduate.

We also work with WorldSkills, an organisation that celebrates the power and value of professional skills through training and competition.

We're incredibly proud of our commitment to diversity. Our Design Engineering and Maths department create an environment that is inclusive and diverse for both staff and students. It’s a place where you can feel comfortable and express yourself.
Associate Lecturer and Middlesex alumna, Puja Varsani, has recently been named as the winner of the ‘Inspirational Role Model’ award with WorldSkills UK for her work to encourage this diversity. Puja has received the award off the back of her efforts to encourage more women and people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds to pursue science.
“Recognising those who go the extra mile to benefit those particularly from disadvantaged groups is fantastic. Puja is an amazing person – it has been such a privilege to have worked with her over the years. I am sure she will continue to act as a role model to so many to shine in their own way.”
Professor Mehmet Karamanoglu, Head of Department for Design Engineering and Mathematics
We are incredibly proud of Puja and her work. Just like Puja, we are looking forward to getting to know you and to finding out the unique contribution that you can make to our community.
