Studying Animation

What to look forward to

At Middlesex, our teaching is personalised to ensure that you get a tailored experience to help you develop your creative identity.

Unlike other institutions, our class sizes are kept small so that you get the maximum contact time with our expert award-winning tutors and facilities.

  • Reach your full creative potential

You’ll have our state-of-the-art facilities at your fingertips to help develop your own identity and produce your best possible work, including: amazing animation studios (with late and weekend access), digital media workshops, stop motion studios and life drawing studios

You will cover a wide range of approaches to animation, from drawing, painting, digital 2D, to stop motion and 3D computer animation

Both animation courses have a strong emphasis on life drawing and your drawing development. You will be able to take part in weekly life drawing masterclasses to help improve your craft

Academic Support will be there for you right through your studies. You’ll have plenty of contact time with experienced lecturers and technicians, all of which work or have worked in the industry, such as BAFTA winning film maker Jonathan Hodgeson.

  • Hands on learning and collaboration

Your timetable will be built around teaching time using our facilities on campus with online sessions for some activities where being virtual adds value.

We’ve planned your learning so it has the most benefit for you. We’re aiming to offer stop motion and life drawing classes in our studios; a fantastic opportunity for you to work with live models in person and express your ideas using our state-of-the art facilities.

Contextual and theoretical lectures will be online, meaning you can ask questions of tutors and lecturers or through pre-recorded lectures that you can watch at your own time.

Innovative teaching that's enhanced by technology

Our approach to teaching and learning has been designed using feedback from students and staff during the previous years.

Our annual end of year degree show takes place in person and online. The show is a fantastic way of exhibiting the amazing work by our creative students and the online aspect means that our students’ work can reach industry professionals all over the world!

We use technology to enhance your learning and help develop your creative voice. You will have free access to industry standard software, helping you reach a more professional standard for your projects.

Using the messaging platform Discord means you can continue to benefit from being in a buzzing creative community with your classmates and you can continue the social aspect learning in an online setting as well as on-campus.

Support for your successful career in animation

You will benefit from our robust industry connections, internships, studio visits and inspirational talks from animation professionals.

Gain invaluable experience from working on collaborative projects for real clients such as theatres and museums, helping you develop the essential skills and knowledge that will prepare you for a uccessful career in animation or games. Watch some of our student’s live projects.

If you're studying 3D Animation and Games, you'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with game designers on indie games and virtual reality experiences, which are showcased at the UK's largest game expo, EGX London.

The team is looking forward to welcoming you to Middlesex! With our placement programme, state-of-the art facilities and dedicated team, we’re excited to see you develop into a professional, ready to take on the creative industry.
