Studying Photography

What to look forward to

Throughout your learning, you’ll learn from and be supported by our committed staff, who have a broad range of professional expertise in photography in areas including digital imaging technology, editorial portraiture and reportage, and fashion.

Reach your full creative potential

Join our award-winning programme and benefit from some of the best photographic facilities in the UK, such as our digital media facilities, studios, camera and lighting equipment, traditional black and white and colour darkrooms and an extensive library.

You will be given free access to industry-standard software including the Adobe Creative Suite.

Hands on learning and collaboration

Around 75% of your teaching timetable will be on campus where you’ll be responding to a range of exciting photographic projects and learning new skills in the industry leading photographic facilities. There will also be blended online activities in your timetable where that extra flexibility benefits you. Visual culture sessions (history of photography / art & design) will run online and all sessions will be recorded allowing you to playback lectures.

Innovative teaching from experienced practitioners and academics

Our committed, supportive staff have a broad range of professional expertise in photography in areas including digital imaging technology, editorial portraiture and reportage, and fashion, meaning you will gain a rich and diverse understanding of photography and cover many areas of research practice that interest you.

You will also be able to go on field trips to see exhibitions and events in both London and Paris and we host a variety of events outside of your course structure: including artists talks, symposiums and exhibitions.

Support for your successful career in photography

A dedicated Year 3 module provides an awareness of how to negotiate commercial contexts and established professional standards of photographic practice. You create a portfolio, CV, online presence and research where you want to work.

Each year visiting professionals run portfolio reviews and give advice on the next steps in your career. You will be tackling industry briefs on real fashion and advertising commercial projects from your first year.

We’ll also support your award entries into national industry competitions, which look great on your CV. Many prizes and awards have been won by students on the courses so far.
