Studying with us during coronavirus in 2021

Studying Accounting and Finance

What to look forward to

Your learning will be driven by our state-of-the-art Financial Market Labs that give you access to finance software such as Bloomberg and Datastream.

Our courses prepare you for life after graduation by teaching you industry standard accounting programmes like Sage and OneSource.

  • Focus on the skills you need for your career

Our courses are designed to set you up for a successful career by equipping you with the skills and expertise you’ll need in your external exams and future career.

This includes training on hard skills in accounting programmes, modules on ethics and corporate responsibility, and courses on specialist areas like corporate finance or investment.

By the time you graduate from Middlesex, you’ll have developed not only your knowledge in a variety of areas, but you’ll also have earned a CIMA qualification in Sage and be eligible for a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Certificate.

  • We're back on campus for teaching

Your timetable will be built around teaching time using our facilities on campus with online sessions for some activities where being virtual adds value. That means it’s not going to be like 2020 over again. We've combined the best of our pre-pandemic teaching with what's worked best for students while they've been learning at home.

We’ve planned your learning so it has most benefit for you:

    • You’ll be on campus for seminars and labs in small groups which will provide a safe space for you to clarify your understanding, meet and learn from your fellow classmates, and discuss concepts with your tutor face-to-face

    • You’ll be taught online through both live lectures where you can ask questions of tutors and lecturers or through pre-recorded lectures or labs that you can watch at your own time.
  • Innovative teaching that's enhanced by technology

Our teaching and learning approach is evidence-based and designed using feedback from students and staff during the pandemic and in previous years.

For example, our students particularly liked watching our bite-sized “concept videos” to refresh their knowledge before a lecture so we’re continuing to include these in course materials.

We also use technology to enhance your learning and put you in control, like polls and quizzes during online lectures so you can interact live.

Tech also allows us to add innovative new ways of teaching into the mix like offering you access, at home, to all our industry leading software like Sage, Xero, and Bloomberg from your own computer.

  • Impactful partnerships to succeed in the professional world

We also know that if you are looking to work in accounting or finance, it’s important that you are equipped for the specific demands of the job. That’s why we partner with several different organisations to accredit our courses and our graduates get exemptions from many of the exam qualifications.

Accreditations for our Accounting degrees are from the following institutions:

    • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
    • The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
    • The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
    • The Chartered Institute of Public Finances and Accounting (CIPFA)
    • The Association of International Accountants (AIA)

For our finance degrees, you’ll still get access to a qualification in CMI upon graduation, and you’ll get the opportunity to interact with our many industry partners through optional placements, guest lecturers, and networking opportunities.

Bringing our research expertise into the classroom

Our academic staff are also active participants in research, focused on developing ideas and projects around innovative and important topics in the industry. In your course, you’ll find that research comes to life in several of our optional modules.

This includes topics like Ethics and Sustainability, Authentic Leadership, and Personal Financial behaviour.

From our hands-on software training and our strong accreditation partnerships, to our variety of optional modules in innovative and interesting subject areas, we know that studying Accounting and Finance at Middlesex University will set you up for a successful career.

No matter your area of interest or career goals, we are here to help you along your journey and ensure you are equipped to practice in an ever-changing world.
