Reach your full creative potential

Our dance degrees offer full-time dance training that will develop you as a highly creative and versatile dance artist.

Join a full-time schedule of practical dance training that develops your skills and introduces you to a broad range of dance practices. Engage in a rigorous dance technique provision with classes in contemporary techniques, ballet, urban and improvisation; many of which are accompanied by live musicians. Practical classes are enhanced with creative workshops and academic seminars, preparing you for a lifelong career in the arts and creative industries.

Your practical training will take place in our specialist dance facilities which include four fully equipped dance studios and Grove Dance Theatre, which has a seating capacity of 144, a specialist flagship lighting rig and many more extras that facilitate an authentic professional environment, including dedicated dressing rooms.

Our dance faculty is made up of a team of industry experts who will support you in developing tools to aid your physical and emotional wellbeing. Core modules and activities focus on health for dancers and our close links with the Sport and Rehabilitation clinic will provide you with direct access to physical injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Our Academic Advisor scheme will also offer you a defined point of signposting pastoral care and academic support.

Our dance course won 2022 MDXSU Course of the Year voted for by students, showing how much our community love the dynamic and practice-based teaching and learning they do here.

What to expect

You will be on campus a minimum of 4 days a week and train in our specialist dance facilities. On arrival you will form creative companies where you will work with a professional choreographer to create a new work that you will perform just before the Christmas break. Alongside this project you will take part in practical classes in a range of dance techniques, creative practices and fitness for dance. You will also engage in weekly Anatomy seminars and have access to master classes/seminars and our popular MDX Dance Society.

A successful career in dance

Our dance courses have been designed to equip you with the skills to pursue a lifelong career in dance and the creative industries. As an MDX Dance student you will be introduced to a range of dance practices, approaches and perspectives. You will also engage with project experiences that mirror those within the industry.

Our graduates are highly successful and tend to follow portfolio style careers, meaning their work spans across many areas of the dance sector. Some examples of where our students go as performers include: Jasmin Vardimon, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Boy Blue, Southpaw Dance Company and Todrick Hall. As creatives: Adidas London (Originals Creator Network), Independent Dance and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. In events, arts administration and producing; Royal Academy of Dance, MOVE IT, One Dance UK, and in Teaching and participation; Northern School of Contemporary Dance, a variety community dance organisations and state schools. In dance health, rehabilitation and fitness; National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science, Trinity Laban and London Contemporary Dance School.
