You will spend the majority of your time in the studio alongside a close-knit community of students, emulating the studio working environment in the creative industries.
You’ll have our state-of-the-art facilities at your fingertips to help develop your own identity and produce your best possible work
We provide a vibrant learning experience within our course specific studio and you’ll be assigned an individual space for all three years.
Our workshop facilities are some of the best in the country with extensive access to print processes such as etching, lithography, silkscreen, lino and monoprint. We also have a letterpress workshop and digital and traditional photographic studios and darkrooms.
For October 2022, the majority of teaching will take place on campus meaning you have maximum access our excellent facilities and our specialist illustration studio. There will also be online activities in your timetable where that extra flexibility benefits you. Based on feedback from previous students, more theoretical learning will be online, meaning teaching will be fully virtual one day a week.
You will have open access to the Illustration studio every day so you can experience what it’s like to be in a vibrant creative community and to get a feel for a creative industry working environment.
We will also have life drawing classes in our studios; a fantastic opportunity for you to work with live models in person and express your ideas using our facilities.
We take a very personal approach to your learning, meaning you will receive plenty of support from your tutors – something previous students have been very positive about. In fact, BA Illustration have achieved 100% for ‘overall satisfaction with the course’ in the National Student Survey every year since 2020.
All our staff are practicing illustrators and designers with extensive experience in their specialist fields and have research activity of national and international status. Our Graduate Academic Assistants also have experience in the creative industry, providing further support in the studio and workshops.
We also have strong links with the illustration industry and have previously had visits from publishers, illustration agents, and practicing illustrators as well as professional studios and galleries.
