Studying Psychology

Learning from the cutting edge

You’ll benefit from courses accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), which will allow you to gain Graduate Basis of Chartered Membership, once you gain your degree.

You’ll develop an expert understanding of everything from cognitive and social psychology to biological and developmental psychology.

  • Learn advanced skills for your career

You’ll develop a range of skills and techniques which are used on at the forefront of the industry and an in-depth understanding of human behaviour.

There are many career options available to Psychology graduates, from working in clinical psychology to forensics, government policy and even elite sports coaching.

You’ll be supported by your tutors, particularly your personal tutor, as you work in groups and in one-to-ones that will focus on your personal needs.

Our teaching staff are leading researchers in areas including health psychology, forensic psychology and qualitative research, so everything you learn is on the cutting edge of recent research.

  • We're back on campus for teaching

Your timetable will be built around teaching time using our facilities on campus with online sessions for some activities where being virtual adds value. That means it’s not going to be like 2020 over again. We've combined the best of our pre-pandemic teaching with what's worked best for students while they've been learning at home.

We’ve planned your learning so it has most benefit for you:

    • You’ll be on campus for practical work in our  psychophysiology laboratory, project and interview rooms and will be working in small groups, which will provide a safe space for you to work with fellow students and tutors

    • You’ll be taught online through both live lectures where you can ask questions of tutors and lecturers or through pre-recorded lectures that you can watch at your own time.

Confidence building placements

Our specialist psychology laboratories and counselling practice rooms are among the highest-standard in the UK. They give you the opportunity to practice the skills you’ve learnt so far and between your second and third year, we encourage you to take those skills out on a year-long placement.

We have established great relationships with prestigious institutions including Great Ormond Hospital School, St Georges Hospital, Priory Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, Institute of Education, University College London, Holloway Prison, and the Metropolitan Police.

Our placements give you the chance to build industry links, apply your knowledge, develop practical skills and will boost your CV and chances of employment when you graduate. We support you in gaining the employment skills you need, alongside the placements, so you graduate feeling confident and ready for the industry.

Evolving our teaching in the pandemic

We're designing our approach to teaching and learning for 2021 using student and staff feedback from the past year and evidence of what helped students learn best. This means we can incorporate some of the most successful innovations and new practices and make the most of your study time on campus and online.

Our team has risen to the occasion over the past year – supporting not only students but research into the pandemic. Our graduates have been working on the front line, supporting the NHS through the crisis. We’re proud of the work we have done within our community and we are taking what we have learnt forward, to continue to offer you the best education and preparation possible.
