Your MDXSU - Animation

Our plans for autumn 2020

Student life at Middlesex is about getting more than an education. This autumn, you’ll be joining a positive and inclusive community of incredible people where you’ll make friends and memories for life.

Our Students’ Union are a big part of making that happen.

As well as receiving a great learning experience through a mix of online and face-to-face teaching, we’re making some exciting plans to make you have a busy social life too, in a way that works for you - whether that’s remotely or on campus.

MDXSU events and support for students

Your Students’ Union will be as active as ever this autumn, working virtually to represent you, and help you get the most out of your time here.

At the beginning of term, we’ll offer most of our events and services online, including student advice (through video appointments and live chat) and support for campaigns. We’re working with expert online events companies to build a fun programme of Welcome events to help you settle in and build your virtual network as a new student.

We’re also creating online spaces and events for student communities to meet up and share experiences.  You can keep up with what we’ve got going on and our Student Officers through our social media and website.

Societies, Liberation Groups and Student Communities

MDXSU support all kinds of student groups: from academic societies to general interest societies, as well as international societies, faith groups and student media.

All of these groups are free for you to join through the MDXSU website, and are a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, try something new and develop skills and knowledge. You’ll get experience that employers love and meet new and interesting people!

Get involved in Animation and Games outside your studies too. There’s plenty to get stuck into, whether that’s joining others who share your passion for Anime in the Anime and Manga Society, creating games, props and characters in the 3D Game Art Society or just playing games with like-minded people in the MDX Games Society.

If you can’t find a group that matches your interest, then why not start your own? We’ll help you every step of the way, from one to one support with our Student Groups Coordinator to free, accessible online training which will help develop your skills as a leader.

Representation

We understand that our students from under-represented and marginalised communities benefit from having support and representation that is tailored to their specific needs. For this reason, we also support four Liberation Groups who represent LGBT+ students, disabled students, women students and black students (of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean heritage).

These groups operate similarly to societies and exist so students can socialise, share experiences and influence positive change on campus. We also support seven Student Communities who offer a specific space for students from different circumstances.

Whether you’re an international student, a mature student, a commuter student, a student parent or carer, a postgraduate student, healthcare student or an Erasmus and Exchange student, we have a community for you.

Going online

We’re also pleased to let you know that our student groups have continued to stay active and together even when they’ve been apart because of everything that’s been happening.

Over the last few months, we’ve seen some fantastic activities from LGBT+ quizzes and online hangouts for international students, to virtual meet ups for disabled students and a live educational series about the Black Lives Matter movement from our student media groups.

We’re putting everything in place so you can make a successful start to your time at Middlesex this autumn. If you have any questions about MDXSU, please feel free to get in touch.

We look forward to welcoming you into our wonderful community!
