Fidelis Azanor: Clinical Psychologist, Trustwide Lead for Workforce Development of Psychological Professions

Course studied: BSc Psychology with Counselling (2011)

Since leaving Middlesex, Fouzia had the opportunity to study and work in three different countries, having a huge impact in building awareness of mental health and different approaches to it. She said:

“As you can imagine, this is essential in the work I do and has provided me with excellent opportunities to develop my clinical skills.”

Middlesex University laid the foundation for me to chart my course into Clinical Psychology. The counselling skills training provided in my course were crucial in providing me with the basic and necessary skills to work in the field. I was then able to use these skills to bolster my education, first with a Master’s Degree and then with a Doctorate from UCL.”

Paulina Wojciak: Marketing Intelligence, Cisco Systems

Course Studied: BSc Psychology (2007)

After graduating, Paulina started off working in recruitment for a couple of years before entering in-house consultancy at Cisco. In-house consultancy allowed her to link areas in which she has expertise and as offered development opportunities in areas in which interested her.

“Cisco has an amazing culture and offers a number of opportunities.”

“[Middlesex] made me realise that clinical psychology wasn't the only path open to me and that psychology can be applicable to many different professional fields. It really opened avenues and improved my observational skills. It also gave me the confidence to think independently, express my opinions and engage in debate, which I think helped me get where I am today.”

Since leaving Middlesex, Jessica has gone onto have success as a Clinical Research Worker at the Institute of Psychiatry, which she describes as a ‘fantastic place to be’. Jessica is aiming to apply for a Clinical Doctorate Programme and train as a clinical psychologist.

“My time at Middlesex enabled me to learn and develop skills that have helped me in my hectic but enjoyable working life. Eve Hepburn: Lead Consultant, Forensic Psychologist, St Andrews Healthcare

Course studied: MSc Forensic Psychology

Upon completion of her MSc, Eve applied for an Assistant Psychologist post and secured the first one she applied for. Eve has since completed a Doctorate in Forensic Psychology and is now working as a lead consultant.

“The structure, resources and discipline of the MSc Forensic Psychology course allowed me to build relationships with a wide range of academics and practitioners and a group of like-minded peers who I learnt from and developed with. The staff who taught the course have continued to be supportive and interested since I left and maintaining these types of relationships can lead to further opportunities.”

Evelina Bakanaite: Trainee Psychological Therapist, Camden and Islington NHS

After graduating, Evelina went onto apply for a Healthcare Assistant role at Camden and Islington NHS and, with the help of the Middlesex Employability Service, she was successful. Evelina is now training to be a psychological therapist (CBT).

“BSc Psychology course truly gave me an overview of all that psychology has to offer today. It provided me with information about different fields, therapies and approaches, so that I could decide what was perfect for me. I realised that almost all fields are somehow related to mental health - which became my passion. So, I would say that this Middlesex course helped me decide where I want to go next!”
