Post production and edit suites

As a member of the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries you will have access to professional editing suites, with dual boot capabilities as well as software such as Avid, Final Cut Pro and SketchUp. The suites are an ideal environment to develop film, video, radio and audio production techniques to industry standards.

You will be supported while you work by qualified technical experts who will help you get the most out of the facilities.

Two of our suites also have live ingest and play out function from the TV studio via tie-line, enabling the delivery of multi-cam highlights and play out live back to the studio.

Our Post-production/ edit suites are networked together with a self-contained Avid system, comprising an ISIS 5000 for storage with 94 terabyte’s of space raid 5 protected. Projects or media stored within the system can be accessed from any suite and audio packages can be sent directly to the studio. At any given time we can store data for up to 90 potentially connected clients.

Multi-format support

We support multiple formats (e.g. tape, file and even VHS tapes). Mini DV tape decks can also be made available for every suite, as can XDCam decks and card readers. Each suite also has 3rd party transcoding software and the ability to rip DVDs.

Lighting and temperature control

Suite users also benefit from various light settings and controllable air-conditioning/ heating.

Enhanced security

All twelve suites are secured via a card lock security system.

Pro Tools suite

Designed for sound editing, pre-mixing and mixing, our Pro Tools suite offers a comprehensive solution for all our audio requirements. Its advantages include Pro Tools 12 software, an HDX system with a C|24 control surface, brand new Genelec 5.1 monitoring and a variety of plug-ins from Waves, iZotope, Audio Ease, Sonnox and Avid.
Video playback can be carried out within the Pro Tools system itself or alternatively our Media Composer Satellite connection offers this functionality. There is also no need to export projects from Media Composer as these can
be opened using our Media Composer Satellite connection which in turn will synchronise with your Pro Tools session. Both systems are connected via ISIS 5000 to all our other Post-Production/Edit suites. You also benefit from fantastic support from our experienced technical engineers.

Colour grading suites

Middlesex University’s School of Media and Performing Arts boasts two dedicated colour grading suites running industry standard DaVinci Resolve 12 software complete with DaVinci Resolve Advanced (CGS1) and Tangent Element control surface (CGS2) as well as UHD & 4K resolution support. The system is capable of up to 4K real time playback and rendering. The suites also provide broadcast standard 10-bit monitoring via a calibrated Eizo ColorEdge 4K monitor in a neutral grey environment. Access to Avid and EditShare servers ensures seamless integration between projects created in post-production/ edit Suites and digital media workshops. CGS2 Workstation is complete with Avid Media Composer and Adobe Creative Cloud as well as access to Avid and EditShare servers. This provides a quick conform and ensures seamless integration between projects made on any editing platform.
