Environmental Risk

Environmental risk is a cross-cutting theme within the Natural Sciences Department.  DARM research complements that of the Flood Hazard Research Centre and the Urban Pollution Research Centre

A recent collaboration with academic partners in Kazakhstan evaluated the role of risk governance concepts in integrated water cycle management and development of postgraduate education.  Details of the IWEB project and its outputs can be found here.

Current research builds on previous experience in urban geochemistry and human health and the effects of air pollution on cultural heritage. This paper, for example, looks back at earlier research on the exposure of young children to lead in the environment and shows how modern risk governance concepts can shed light on the way that policy develops from scientific research.

Khadijah Isimekhai is carrying out a fascinating and challenging study on the effects of pollution from eWaste in Nigeria.
