More and more students are applying to university through Clearing. Whether you missed the UCAS deadline, have only recently decided to apply, or decided to wait for any reason, Clearing is a practical way to find a uni course now and get started this Autumn 2021.

We also know that when you’re out of education and don’t have the support of your school and teachers to help, Clearing can feel scary. To make it as straightforward as possible, we’ve put together some tips for navigating Clearing after taking a break from education.

1. Use your head start

If you’ve already got your exam results, you can apply through Clearing from Monday 5 July until it closes in October. Most students have to wait until they receive their exam results, so this gives you the chance to apply early find a place on the course you want before it’s full.

2. Don’t feel intimidated

The Clearing process isn’t as complicated as it might seem: you check if the uni you like has a course you’re interested in, then you call them up to see if they’re able to offer you a place. If they do, they’ll be able to guide you through making you application through UCAS.

3. Explore your options

Finding the right university and course for you can be scary, but it’s also exciting. Take the time to think about what you want out of your education, your requirements and dealbreakers. Then, have a browse through available courses: you might find yourself interested in a degree you’d never considered before.

4. Remember that support is available

It’s our job to help you feel supported through the Clearing process and answer any questions you have. When you chat to us about Clearing, you’ll get personal advice so you understand the options open to you. There’s no pressure – we want you to have the right info and support to make your decision.

5. Have your exam results ready

When you apply, have your exam results ready and be prepared to talk about your experience and why you want to study that course. Have some positive things to say about yourself and the university.

6. Reach for a new start

After a lot of uncertainty over the past year, Clearing could be a great way to make a change and take control of your future. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you get in touch, so why not give it a try?
