Business students benefiting from e-books pilot

E-books pilotFree digital text provided for each module of study

In business, it's vital to keep abreast of the latest technological developments, and the Middlesex University Business School is doing just that by taking part in an e-books pilot scheme called MyKortext, which began on 1 September 2014.

Along with the School of Law, the Business School is offering every student a free e-book for each module they are studying.

Students can download these core texts to a variety of devices such as smart phones and tablets, enabling them to access key information on the go at the touch of a button. E-books are also becoming increasingly flexible, allowing both students and lecturers to highlight, make notes on and share sections with others.

"We are committed to providing the best learning experience for our students" - Anna Kyprianou, Pro-Vice Chancellor and the Dean of the Business School

This is not the first time the School has experimented with the provision of e-books, having previously provided them for distance learning MBA students, who gave very positive feedback on their use.

Commenting on the latest initiative, Anna Kyprianou, Pro-Vice Chancellor and the Dean of the Business School, said: "We are delighted to be involved at the beginning of this project. We are committed to providing the best learning experience for our students. By offering them core texts in e-book form we hope to enhance their time at Middlesex so they can achieve their full potential."

All the e-books offered as part of the MyKortext pilot are provided by digital textbook company Kortext. Its partner, JS Group, runs an online bookshop stocking other business-related e-books not included in the scheme at very competitive prices – enabling students who want to digest the majority of their course materials in digital form to do so.

Should the two-school pilot prove to be a success during the course of the 2014/15 academic year, it is hoped that the remaining four schools at Middlesex will also be able to benefit from MyKortext in 2015/16.
