Clearing stories: Angel
I applied to another university, but unfortunately, I didn't get the grades to go into that uni. When I didn't get the grades to get into my first option, I literally cried so bad.
My mum cried, my brother cried, we were all crying together because they just knew how much effort I had put in.
Then my friend recommended Middlesex, because she went to the Open day. She said “trust me Angel, you're going to love this uni.” So, I did some research – I knew I wanted a university that was diverse and I could channel my mind creatively - and then I applied to Middlesex through Clearing, I did it all online. It was very quick process.
I think it took maybe in the span of one week and it was like I applied. I've been accepted and I was filling out forms and I was ready to go. In the span of a week. When I first started university, my teachers were very supportive. They helped me create a timed schedule so I could follow along the process very easily. And they were very just considerate when sometimes I needed more help, because it's a lot different compared to college. They were very understanding and they are so nurturing.
Angel's top-tips
- Try not to get upset! I think if I could go back in time, I would tell myself to stop crying because I literally don’t regret anything. I'm so glad I didn't get the grades I needed to get into the first option, because I don't believe I would have loved it as much
- Take time to compose yourself, take a breath. You are making a big decision, and think what is important to you. I wanted a course that would give me opportunities to explore and try new things, like going to events and awards, and I found that here
- Make sure they have the support that you will need. I wanted the tutors to be patient with me, and that is exactly what I got
- Speak to other friends and students who are studying at the university, it is so important to hear from them on what it is like to be a student at the uni
- Make a decision that is right for you, not what is right for your friends or family!
