Clearing stories: Duha
When I didn’t receive the grades I wanted on results day, I was disappointed and nervous about my next step. I was very nervous when I went through Clearing, obviously, because it's a process I haven't been through before.
When I called up Middlesex, they made me feel very comfortable, very safe, and they made me feel very calm about the process. They explained to me everything that I was going to go through, and what was going to happen.
They assured me that they would give me all the support and help I needed, and then I just felt really reassured. I then felt very calm, and I was actually feeling really excited to go through the process.
Clearing gave me the time to research the university that was best for me and my course and I am so happy that I found Middlesex. I never expected to come to Middlesex, but I feel like now that I'm here, I wouldn't change a thing.
Duha's top-tips
My top-tips if you are researching Clearing and where you might apply to are:
- Think about the locations, consider where you want to live and transport to and from your home or where you might be living if you are looking to move away.
- Do lots of research on the course that you are going to study. My course at Middlesex provides me with a lot of opportunities for getting involved in real world projects and a lot of help from my lecturers as well.
- Find out what financial help there is, Middlesex provide you with a lot of job opportunities that you can get involved in on campus, this has provided me financial freedom while studying.
- Speak to students studying at the university, either by visiting the campus at an event or speaking with students on the website on Unibuddy – they will tell you exactly what it is like to be a student at the Uni!
- See what support is available. I did feel a bit unsettled, a bit nervous going into a new place. I asked for help, and got it. Also, Middlesex has MDXWorks which helps with part-time jobs, internships, networking and graduate jobs. When it came to my career and when it came to navigating my CV. They gave me career tips and essentially what I could apply to when I'm in my second year, or the type of jobs that I can apply to.
