Teaching
You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience.
You’ll learn through workshops, seminars, studio sessions, and collaborative projects. Practice-led teaching is supported by guest lectures from industry professionals and hands-on learning using high-end industry-standard audio equipment available to borrow from our Kit Hub loan service. Independent research, peer feedback, and live briefs ensure that your learning is both creative and professionally relevant.
Your timetable will be built around on campus sessions using our professional facilities, with online sessions for some activities where we know being virtual will add value. We’ll use technology to enhance all your learning and give you access to online resources to use in your own time. Project information, recorded presentations, and assessment criteria will be provided through our online module page.

Outside of these hours, you’ll be expected to do independent study where you read, listen and reflect on other learning activities. This can include preparation for future classes. In a year, you’ll typically be expected to commit 1,200 hours to your course across all styles of learning. If you are taking a placement, you might have some additional hours.
You’ll benefit from one-to-one support from your tutors and the Careers and Futures employability team. Academic writing, research, and technical skills are supported through workshops, library resources, and peer collaboration. Free laptop loans, Wi-Fi, printing, and access to Adobe Creative Cloud and Avid tools are included.
Assessment is through practical projects, portfolios, reflective reports, and presentations. Feedback is continuous and developmental, focusing on both creative execution and critical reflection to support your growth as an audio storyteller.
Facilities
Based in The Grove, you will have access to world-class facilities:
- Concert and recital rooms
- 15 soundproofed practice rooms
- 23 pianos (including a Steinway grand and a Bösendorfer grand)
- Hybrid analogue-digital sound recording facilities
- Recording and mixing studio
- Digital media workshop with 15 workstations (Mac computer with specialist music software, two monitors and piano keyboard)
You will also have access to external venues and collaborative access to other creative areas of the University such as dance, theatre, film, television, animation and computer games.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree (2:2 or above) in a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Portfolio
If you don’t hold a degree in a relevant field, you’ll need to submit a portfolio as part of your application. This is your chance to show us your creative ability, enthusiasm, and potential to succeed on the course.
