Healthcare and social work courses

The School of Health and Social care has a well-established, long-standing reputation for providing high-quality education and training and undertaking cutting edge research. A wide variety of continuing professional (CPD) courses are provided for the health and social care workforce.

Studying a CPD course with us at Middlesex means you’ll get access to our industry-leading and collaborative programmes. Our course development is based on collaboration with our practice partners and service users and is delivered in state of the art facilities.

We also make a point to recognise prior learning wherever that has taken place which is why you can transfer credit gained  from Middlesex University or another HEI’s modules or programmes and claim for learning which is more than 5 years old. You can also claim for learning from experience if you choose to.

We also run courses with an inter-professional focus enabling nurses, nursing associates, midwives, mental health workers, care sector workers to learn together and from each other.

The type of CPD that we offer varies:

  • Non-credit bearing: bite size, study days, short courses
  • Credit bearing: stand-alone CPD modules  and programmes available at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
  • Organisational accreditation of in-house provision
  • Bespoke provision designed to meet specific organisational workforce development needs

Delivering our CPD

However your CPD is delivered whether online (on-demand and/or live sessions) or face to face in the skills laboratory or the classroom, or a combination of both, you will benefit from one to one and group support from your tutor and peer support from your colleagues.

CPR, first aid and medical emergencies

The ability to react fast to an injury or emergency in the workplace is a key skill for any employee or manager.

We offer CPR and first aid courses with qualifications approved by Qualsafe Awards, an awarding organisation recognised by Ofqual.

What you need to know

  • You must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline to join the course.
  • For most employers, an employer risk assessment will be needed to assess how much first aid cover is needed for your workplace. Get more information on employers' first aid requirements at the HSE website.
  • Courses can be run in your workplace or in our purpose-built skills centre on our Hendon Campus.

Short English courses

We provide English courses for international students who are coming to the UK to study to help you prepare.

IELTS

Our Intensive IELTS Preparation Programme will help you prepare for taking an IELTS exam. This course is open to everyone - not just students of Middlesex University.

This course will open again in summer 2019.

Pre-sessional English courses

These courses can help you improve your English before you begin studying at Middlesex in the UK. Courses take place over the summer before term starts and the length of your course will depend on your level of English.
