The credit-bearing option spans the period of the Capstone Project module, where the students can choose between dissertation, consultancy projects, and business plan development. You will be paired with a suitable supervisor or company contact person, depending on the pathway choice, who will have one-to-one meetings with you throughout the course.
About your course
The course spans four key areas:
- Identify business issues, challenges, or opportunities by critically evaluating the current business environment and industry trends.
- Bring together knowledge from various primary and secondary sources, including academic literature, to develop innovative solutions and strategic recommendations for specific business scenarios.
- Design appropriate, valid, and reliable research approaches and methods and apply them to consultancy, entrepreneurship, or applied research projects within various business contexts.
- Evaluate the ethical considerations, societal impacts, and professional standards required in conducting business research, emphasising integrity and accountability in disseminating findings.
Across these four areas, you will complete the course with a range of skills:
- Advanced problem-solving skills by applying theoretical knowledge and research findings to formulate practical, evidence-based solutions to real-world business challenges.
- The ability to develop and execute an appropriate research plan, employing suitable methods to gather, analyse, and interpret data relevant to the capstone project.
- Experience of managing a research-based project efficiently from conception to conclusion, showcasing the ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and adapt strategies in response to evolving project requirements and findings.
- Proficiency in effectively communicating complex ideas and outcomes to a varied audience, including stakeholders and peers.

Learning and teaching
The MBA Capstone Project module is a combination of interactive workshops, individual study, and supervisor support. The workshops will cover project proposal development and research methods, as well as provide support for entrepreneurship, consultancy, and applied research projects.
Once students develop their project proposal, they will receive support from a project supervisor. This mentorship, along with self-directed learning, will guide students throughout their project journey.
Assessment
You will need to submit a project report, with a word count of approximately 12,000 words or equivalent.
You will be able to choose the format: a dissertation, a consultancy project, or a business plan.
Fees and funding
The credit bearing course costs £3,750, for UK and international students.
Entry requirements
UK entry requirements
A 2.2 honours degree or above, and two or more years of relevant business experience or graduate-level professional qualifications. If you do not possess either an honours degree or professional qualifications, you are welcome to apply, but we normally require a GMAT score of at least 550 points.
International entry requirements
We accept a wide range of international qualifications, equivalent to a UK 2.2 honours degree. You can find out more on your country's support page. If you need help with your application, please contact your nearest regional office.
You'll need good English language skills to study with us. That's usually an IELTS 6.0 qualification (with a grade of 6.0 for Reading and Writing components/Listening and Speaking components at 5.5). And, if you need help, we offer an intensive pre-sessional English course.
To study with us in the UK, you will need a student route visa.
Exceptions to entry requirements
Candidates not meeting any of these requirements may, in exceptional cases, be considered for admission where there is strong supporting education or experience. All such cases will be at the discretion of the Executive MBA Programme Leader.
