This course develops your ability to interpret financial and economic information to support effective business decision-making. You will gain a clear understanding of key financial principles and economic trends, and learn how to analyse data, evaluate performance, and apply practical tools to drive informed, strategic decisions in real-world organisational contexts.

About your course

About your course

The course will cover the following topics:

  • analysis of financial statements, in particular statements of profit or loss, financial position, and cash flows, and assess the relationship between accounting and corporate finance, including investment decision-making, cost management, and working capital management
  • applying economic principles, including supply and demand, marginal analysis, and opportunity cost, to areas of international economics, money and banking, trade, foreign investment, and economic institutions.

Across these areas, you will develop a range of skills throughout the course:

  • evaluate accounting and finance data and conduct the necessary calculations to support effective business decision-making
  • analyse the role of accounting and finance within an organisation and how these functions interact with other areas of the business.

Schedule details

The credit-bearing module will take place between 3 December - 5 December 2025.

The non-credit bearing module will take place between 3 November - 21 November 2025.

Learning and teaching

The module will be delivered via interactive lectures and workshops, using a student-centred, active learning-based pedagogy. You will have weekly reading and tasks to prepare for formative exercises, which will be an integral component of the module design. You will be expected to engage in independent self-study activities to support your learning and to achieve success in module summative assessments. 

Non-credit bearing (NCB): two and half days (15 hrs) on campus every week for three weeks.

Credit bearing (CB): two and half days (15 hrs) on campus every week for three weeks and two further weeks for assessments.

Assessment (credit bearing only)

You will need to submit a financial analysis of a listed company, with an approximate word count of 2500 words or equivalent.

The non-credit bearing course costs £3,250, for UK and international students.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Please note these entry requirements are valid only for students taking the credit-bearing route. The non-credit bearing path has no entry requirements.

UK entry requirements

A 2.2 honours degree or above, and two or more years of relevant business experience or graduate-level professional qualifications. If you do not possess either an honours degree or professional qualifications, you are welcome to apply, but we normally require a GMAT score of at least 550 points.

International entry requirements

We accept a wide range of international qualifications, equivalent to a UK 2.2 honours degree. You can find out more on your country's support page. If you need help with your application, please contact your nearest regional office.

You'll need good English language skills to study with us. That's usually an IELTS 6.0 qualification (with a grade of 6.0 for Reading and Writing components/Listening and Speaking components at 5.5). And, if you need help, we offer an intensive pre-sessional English course.

To study with us in the UK, you will need a student route visa.

Exceptions to entry requirements

Candidates not meeting any of these requirements may, in exceptional cases, be considered for admission where there is strong supporting education or experience. All such cases will be at the discretion of the Executive MBA Programme Leader.
