Discovering north London: My Middlesex University journey

When I decided to pursue my master’s degree at Middlesex University in north London, I had no idea how quickly the area would feel like home. From lively local streets to peaceful green spaces, north London offers the perfect student lifestyle. I’ve found a great balance between academic life and everyday adventure, making studying in London a truly rewarding experience.  

A melting pot of cultures and creativity 

What I love most about north London is its incredible cultural diversity. From the buzzing energy of Camden Market to the multicultural vibes in Finsbury Park, every neighbourhood brings a new perspective.  

As a Middlesex University student, I’ve learned so much from the people and experiences here. You can celebrate Diwali in one street and then enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea the next. This mix of cultures has expanded my horizons and made me feel part of a truly global community. It’s not just about the free museums, food and music, it’s about feeling inspired by the people around me.  

Must-visit places every student should explore 

If you’re new to north London or getting ready to study at Middlesex University, you’re in for a treat. There’s no shortage of amazing spots nearby to unwind, explore, and soak up student life.  

Start with Hampstead Heath: it’s my personal escape when I need a break from studying. With scenic walking trails, wild swimming ponds, and sweeping views of the city skyline, it’s the perfect place to clear your head and recharge.  

Next up is the iconic Camden Market. If you’re into street food, vintage fashion, or discovering local artists, this vibrant hotspot has it all. It’s busy, bold, and full of personality, just like the area itself.  

And you can’t miss Alexandra Palace, or “Ally Pally” as locals call it. Whether you're heading there for a live gig, an exhibition, or just to skate and admire the panoramic views over London, it’s a must-visit.

Discovering my home away from home 

One of the most memorable moments of my north London journey happened early on. Feeling a bit homesick, I decided to wander through Hampstead Heath. I found a quiet bench overlooking the city skyline, and in that moment, I felt a sense of calm and belonging that I hadn’t felt in a while. North London had become more than just a place to study; it had become my home.  

North London isn’t just a location, it’s a vibrant, student-friendly area that combines academic support, cultural richness, and exciting city life. This diverse part of the capital offers the perfect blend of opportunity and inspiration.
