The BSc Banking and Finance course at Middlesex University exceeded all my expectations. Previously, I had attended another university, but I left due to dissatisfaction with the teaching standards and overall educational experience. Returning to university was a decision I approached with caution, but after thoroughly researching what Middlesex had to offer, reviewing course outlines, and reading alumni testimonials, I was convinced it was the right choice. Middlesex did not disappoint and lived up to every expectation.

Exceptional teaching and academic support

The teaching approach in the various modules consistently motivated me to engage with my assignments, pushing me to start early and complete them to a high standard. It challenged me to stretch my abilities further than I thought possible. Not only did I gain knowledge, but I also learned how to retain and apply that knowledge in the professional environment postgraduation.

One educator who had a particularly profound impact on my success was Dr Sylvia Gottschalk. She exemplifies what it means to be an educator, going beyond simply teaching or lecturing. Dr Gottschalk is a true leader in higher education, deeply invested in the academic success and well-being of her students. Her dedication and expertise were essential to my experience at Middlesex, and the BSc Banking and Finance course would not have been the same without her.

How Middlesex contributed to my academic and personal growth

My time at Middlesex has been a transformative journey that significantly influenced both my academic and personal development. The exposure to diverse perspectives, rigorous coursework, and hands-on experiences allowed me to sharpen my critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills. Middlesex taught me to approach complex issues with a structured methodology, while also fostering creativity and adaptability.

University also played a vital role in building my confidence. Collaborative projects, presentations, and working with peers from various backgrounds helped me refine my communication and leadership skills. These experiences gave me a solid sense of self-assurance, which has been crucial in shaping my career path.

The network of professors, mentors, and fellow students provided invaluable support, further clarifying and refining my career aspirations. With access to a wealth of resources and guidance, I felt empowered to pursue my goals with confidence. Ultimately, Middlesex equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and self-assurance necessary for success in my future career.

Applying what I learnt during my course into the real world

In my current role, I regularly communicate with Debt Capital Market desks at global banks and bond issuers, ranging from junior analysts to C-suite executives. Each interaction reminds me of the lessons learned at Middlesex, helping me bring my own personality to the table, build relationships, share my knowledge of capital markets, and make my mark in the industry.
